Promise Made, Promise Delivered: Platte Valley School District Invites Community to the New Platte Valley Middle School Ribbon Cutting and Open House

KERSEY, Colo. – After years of strategic planning, research, conversations with community members, a successful election, and one year of construction, Platte Valley School District is excited to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter. Students, families, staff, alumni, and community members are invited to the Ribbon Cutting & Community Open House for the new middle school on Friday, August 7th, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

This special community celebration will be marking a milestone shared with the entire Platte Valley community. Many of the voters who supported the 2024 Bond were once students in the very middle school being replaced and later watched their own children walk those same halls. Their willingness to embrace something new, while honoring the past, speaks to the strength of the district’s community that continually invests in the future of Platte Valley.

Construction on this project began following the overwhelming passage of the District's 2024 Bond with 64.9% voter approval. "Our community placed its trust in us and we have taken that responsibility seriously," said Superintendent Jeremy Burmeister. "We believe this project is exactly what we promised our supporters, nothing more and nothing less. We are incredibly excited to open the doors and share the new middle school with everyone who made it possible."

Because of the district’s prudent financial planning, the project is approximately $800,000 under budget. “Every financial decision we made was backed by research, careful evaluation, and a long-term focus on delivering a high quality facility while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars,” said Justin Decker, Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer for Platte Valley School District.

While the project is under budget, the school remains a top-of-the-line facility. This was possible in part through the strong partnership between Platte Valley School District and JHL Construction. By working together, both teams remained focused on building a school that will support generations to come. “Our team, in partnership with district leadership, worked hard to build a school that provides exceptional spaces for students and staff with the option for expansion down the line. We are very proud of this project and know the new middle school will serve students well,” said Ryan May, JHL Senior Project Manager.

Platte Valley School District is excited to open the doors of the new middle school, built to serve all Platte Valley students and community members. The Ribbon Cutting & Community Open House is the first of many opportunities for the students, staff and the entire community to gather, marking the beginning of a new chapter and celebrating the successful completion of a promise made to the Platte Valley community.
