On July 19, 2019, the district replaced heating and air conditioning units in the original 1971 portion of the elementary building. The units that had been in the building were replaced in 2000, due to age only 3 of the 4 actual units were currently working. Additionally, the units were having regular expensive maintenance issues, had become inefficient, and produced noise that negatively impacted student learning. The newly-designed custom retrofit will improve energy efficiency as well as provide cost savings for the district. Other new features will allow for more room-by-room control, along with decreasing noise which will help improve the learning environment in the classroom. The new system has a total of 24 individual furnace and cooling units which will provide temperature control for the whole 1971 portion of the elementary building. The project is being paid for from the 2014 bond with a budget of $750,000 and included professionals from electrical and mechanical engineering, electricians, structural engineers, owner’s representatives, and Platte Valley staff. These replacements cannot take place without the support of our community. This month-long project is expected to be completed by August 2nd, just before teachers return.
